- Details of Event
- Died June 21. A stone 6 feet by 3 feet by 2 feet had been dragged by a steam crane from its native bed and deposited on the base 6 feet by 2 feet some 25 yards away, on rails at one end and loose stone at the other, and a stronger chain had been put round it for lifting out of the quarry. The smaller chain was disconnected at one end and the craneman signalled to haul up the crane rope so as to pull it clear of the stone. When about 2 feet of the chain was pulled from under the stone some obstruction had occurred and the stone was tilted over and pinned deceased against another block. He was released in a few minutes but had received fatal injuries.
