- Details of Event
- Deceased was employed in taking a 6-yard cut up along the side of a fault in the Wigan 6 feet seam. When he was about to fill a tub with coal a sudden weighting took place, and brought down a large fall of roof coal. He ran towards a timber stack about 3 yards from the face, but was caught by the fall. Almost immediately a second weighting brought down a further fall of roof over an area of about 19 feet by 12 feet, and completely buried him. When released half an hour later he was dead. The fall displaced four bars and a number of props, and broke over the timber stack.
