Details of Event
Deceased was preparing to start work in a shunt at the inbye end of a haulage road where, owing to heavy weighting of the roof, several centre props bad been set. In the shunt there were 25 empty tubs standing, some of these being on the level and the remainder on a gradient varying from 1 in 20 to 1 in 6. These tubs were said to have been scotched, but had evidently not been sufficiently secured, as shortly after a drawer lad taken two of the tubs inbye the rest commenced to move, and the third tub becoming derailed knocked out a centre prop, causing a small fall of roof. Deceased was struck on the head by the stones and prop and died shortly afterwards. The tubs should have been all coupled together and properly secured by a mooring chain.
