- Details of Event
- Deceased was riding on the last of four loaded side tipping wagons which were coupled together and were running by gravity along a tram road dipping 1 in 50 and 6 feet 5 inches from the edge of the quarry. Owing to some unexplained cause, the rear wagon became derailed and uncoupled. Deceased was thrown upon the slope of the ballast between the tram toad and the quarry. The wagon tilted over and took him with it into the quarry. He fell a distance of 37 feet on to the slope of a chalk mill, whence he rebounded and fell a further distance of 25 feet on to the quarry floor and was killed on the spot. He had been employed on similar work for many years.
