Whilst getting coal he was caught by a fall of roof, 4 feet by 3 feet and an average thickness of 24 inches. The fault was due to four slips, two of which could be seen. One prop was displaced. The deputy had found all in order when he visited the place 34 hours previously. There was no violation of rule.
