- Details of Event
- Deceased and his mate were engaged in making height on a road where the roof was bad, and consequently balks were set close together. They had got some 7 yards done, and on the night of the accident they had taken down one balk. They did not get it reset as they had not time, but thought the place was safe. They were clearing up when suddenly the whole of their new work was swept out by a fall of roof. They had not set the balks on props at either end of his class of work stemming places should always be used between balks. This was not done, or possibly the accident would not have occurred.
