9 January 1930: Fife Pit Fatality – A fatal accident occurred yesterday morning in the Derby mine of Messrs Thomas Spowart & Co., Lassodie, Elgin, and Wellwood Collieries. The victim was Thomas Wallace (20) drawer, residing c/o Gibb, 1 Store Row,Wellwood, Dunfermline. He was overtaken and knocked over by a runaway hutch, death being instantaneous.
