The deceased and the man who had charge of the firing of shots in the quarry were putting a second charge of gunpowder into a hole which had been fired once, when the powder in the canister which the deceased was holding by some means became ignited and set his clothing on fire, causing such severe injuries that he died in Glasgow Infirmary, Glasgow, on the 19th. The other man was severely injured. It is probable that some fuse left from the first shot had been smouldering in a crack in the hole, and this ignited the powder put into the hole, and the resulting flash ignited the powder (9 lbs.) in the canister.
