Deceased was working under overhanging clod, getting coal with a duger. The clod was well supported at the front by props, but a piece weighing about 2 cwts fell out at the back from between two weight breaks, without disturbing any props, and struck him in the abdomen. His pelvis was fractured and his bladder ruptured, and he died on the 2nd October. The place had not been inspected by a deputy since the coal was taken out, but the stallman's examination disclosed no weakness.
