- Shaft fall. On Friday forenoon, a prominent St Ninians man in the person of Mr John Walker, haulage roadman, who resided at Brucefield Place, met his death while engaged at his work in No.2 pit, Polmaise Colliery, Milihall. In the morning wood had fallen down the shaft of the pit and Walker was directed to make an inspection. For this purpose he was being hauled up the shaft on the top of the cage when another piece of wood came away and striking him knocked him off the cage and he fell a distance of 30 fathoms. Deceased, who was 33 years of age. He is survived by a widow and four of a family. (Stirling Observer).
