- 13 January 1916: Fatal Pit Accident Near Falkirk - Alexander Brown, employed by the Carron Company as a haulage bogie-man, and who met with an accident in No.1 Guardrum Pit, Blackbraes, has died from his injuries in Falkirk Infirmary. It is not known how the accident occurred. Brown was found lying in the pit, and it is supposed that he had sustained injuries to his spine, and that he suffered from general paralysis on both sides of the body. He was 20 years of age and resided with his mother at Shieldhill near Falkirk. [Scotsman 13 January 1916]
