- Miscellaneous Underground – By Explosives – The fireman had just left him with a detonator attached to a fuse and he was preparing a shot. By some means he caused his whole tin, 5 lbs. of gelignite, to detonate and he was instantly killed. It had been noted by the fireman that some of the cartridges in the canister were frozen and he may have been either making a hole in one or forcing a detonator in. Naked lights were used, and it is also possible he was thawing the explosives in his canister by the naked light lamp.
