Details of Event
Deceased was assisting to load a tub in a Thick Coal opening. A bump occurred, and a rate of coal fell from the side of a pillar. This coal knocked out a prop, 12 feet in length. On hearing the bump, Wakelam made for the bolt hole but was struck by the falling props. Some of his ribs were fractured and his lungs were pierced. The opening was well timbered.
