- Details of Event
- Deceased was cutting the tops alone by the pack in a face in the Cockshead Coal. A goth caused a rate of coal about 5 feet in length, 15 inches wide, and 3 feet deep to fall from the edge of the top coal. It fell on deceased and buried him, causing injuries from which he died shortly afterwards. Posts were set under the top coal 2 feet apart parallel to the face and were drawn as required. One bed been drawn, leaving 15 inches of coal overhanging from the next prop and it was this overhanging coal which fell. A sprag to it might have prevented the accident, and it could easily have been drawn after completing the cutting.
