- Details of Event
- Deceased, a much respected official, was superintending the removal of a fall of dirt in an endless rope haulage brow, when he gave instructions for two full tubs to be lashed to the rope and sent outbye. The brow rises 1 in 2.5, and, when the tubs had proceeded some six yards, a link of the lashing chain gave way and allowed the tubs to run back. Deceased was caught by them and killed. The fracture in the link disclosed what had been a concealed flaw.
