11 January 1916: A Dysart Pitworker Killed - A lad named Vance, residing at Dovecot Crescent, Dysart, was instantaneously killed at the Randolph Pit, Dysart Collieries, yesterday afternoon. He was employed at the pithead, and had apparently been leaning over the rail at the pit mouth, looking down the shaft, when the cage descended and practically decapitated him.
