- Details of Event
- He was hewing in a place 8 yards wide. The seam was 3 feet 9 inches thick, overlaid by ramble stone 3 feet thick. The ramble was overhanging the coal for from 2 to 3 feet, and was unsupported. He bad tried to get the ramble down without success, and knew it was not sound but foolishly went on working under it without supporting it in any way. A large mass afterwards fell away and killed him.
