- Details of Event
- He had come out to the turn at the inbye end of the landing to see how the driving were getting on, and while waiting at that point a driver came round a gradient of 2 inches per yard with his pony and four full tubs. Fortunately the driver was at the rear end of his set. The pony probably shied at the deputy's light and crashed out causing the first two full tubs to leave the rails, join up and then mount, with the result that two heavy balks were knocked out thus liberating a fall of roof, part of which caught Tweddle on the head. The driver was possibly going at too great a speed and only had four dregs in the wheels instead of six.
