- Details of Event
- Deceased had finished work and was travelling up the main hill the shaft bottom in company with another man. They had nearly reached the top when the haulage rope commenced to bring out a journey of six full tubs. Deceased went into a man-hole, but the other man proceeded to the top and reached the shaft before the set arrived. A little later, deceased was found between the rails severely injured, and he died on removal to the surface. Apparently after waiting some time in the manhole, he decided to go on, and was caught by the set. He was found about 12 yards above the manhole. The accident was due to a contravention of Section 43 (1) of the Coal Mines Act, 1911.
