He was standing in front of the face using a tomahawk to pull down the coal and dirt when the coal came away to a weight break and in stepping back deceased fell upon his shovel an slipped. The dirt slid off the coal and knocked him down with much force up the edge of the shove, causing such injuries that he died on the way to Leeds Infirmary.
