Details of Event
A shot charged with three cartridges of gelignite was prepared in stone by the side of a return air road and was fitted with fuse and detonator. Deceased lit the fuse and retired along the road a distance of 75 feet and stood on the same side as that on which the shot was placed. He had sufficient time to take up a safer position. When the shot exploded a stone was projected and struck him on the head and died in a few hours. The Local Inspectors reported ‘that it was accidental and no blame was attached to anyone.’
