- Died May 3. A pony putter coming outbye with a full tub on a road inclining in favour of the load at 3 inches per yard got off the way wheels all the four wheels at a turn probably owing to a wood closer about 2 inches long having been displaced. Deceased and another lad came to help him put the tub on the rails again. After trying to lift it at the fore end and failing they managed to get the hinder wheels on to the rails and then after putting a drag in these wheels were busy with the fore end when the drag chain out and the tub moved forward carrying deceased with it and he was eventually knocked down by the pony which was still hung on and the tub wheel broke his leg. He was taken to Newcastle Infirmary, blood poisoning set in when the leg was amputated but he never recovered.
