- Details of Event
- Deceased was employed in cleaning weeds off the private branch railway between the quarry and the main line. A locomotive was taking 30 loaded wagons down a slightly falling gradient, the locomotive being behind. As the train came round the curve the guard, who was on the eighth wagon from the front, observed deceased sitting on the offside rail with his head in his hands and apparently asleep. The leading wagon was then about 10 yards from him, and as 10 brakes were down at the time, the train was making a good deal of noise. Deceased did not appear to hear either this or the warning shout of the guard, and was run down and killed.
