Deceased and another man were pushing a tub full of ashes round a turn seven yards away from the fireholes, when he slipped and fell with his chest against the end of the tub. He complained of the injury but it was not considered to be of a serious nature. He finished his shift but never worked again. He developed pleurisy and pneumonia and after receiving medical attention on various occasions, subsequently died on September 7th, from septic pneumonia.
