Deceased and a fireman were breaking stones at a fall near the face, where they had withdrawn the timber three days previously in order to build packs. While so engaged, another fall occurred, and deceased was caught by a stone, measuring 4 feet by 2 feet, which fell away from the edge of the previous fall. Deceased was a spare fireman, and both he and his mats considered it unnecessary to set any additional timber.
