- Details of Event
- Deceased and two others were engaged in drawing timber in a disused stall in the Eureka seam. They drew the props by loosening at the head with a pick and then knocking the post out with a hammer or another post. Deceased then ventured into the waste to recover a drawn prop, when a slab of stone, 5 to 8 inches thick, fell and injured him so severely that he died on the same date. The accident was due to a direct breach of Special Rule 71, which requires roof supports to be drawn by a dog and chain.
