Fall of roof on roadway when passing on their way to work. The place was timbered with collars let into the strata on the one side the collars on the other side resting on posts. Apparently the strata on which these rested gave way owing to a squeeze and let the roof down, the ground not being very strong. The road bad been examined by the examiner shortly before, and it is thoroughly overhauled once a month by a timberman, who had done so within the last fortnight (after the holidays) and who found only two broken collars requiring to be changed.
