- Information from the Inspectors of Mines - 1926:
Roof fall: At Batonrigg Colliery, Lanark, a repairer and his son were preparing to set a crown tree to replace a broken one on a haulage road when a fall of roof occurred at the broken crown tree and caught the senior repairer. If even one temporary prop had been set to the broken crown tree, the accident would not have occurred, as there was little evidence of weight other than that already resting on the defective timber.
