- 26 June 1917: Death In Lumphinnans Colliery - About midday on Tuesday, Andrew Thomson, miner, residing in Main Street, Lumphinnans, was found dead at his working place in No.1 Pit, Lumphinnans Colliery, with his head partly blown off. Thomson was working by himself, his drawer being engaged a short distance away. The drawer had not seen him since between eight and nine o'clock in the morning, and missing his presence he went to a neighbour's place to inquire if Thomson had been seen. The other man returned and ongoing to Thomson's working place they found him as already stated. Thomson who was a married man, was 50 years of age. [Dunfermline Journal 30 June 1917]
