He had been sent to get some coal in a bucket for the office fire and should have gone to the boiler fireholes but for some reason of his own he went to the screens. He was looking up with absorbed interest at the belts discharging coal into the wagons when he was run over and killed by some wagons being pushed by an engine. The locomotive driver was blowing his whistle as was the custom when passing the screens, and a brakesman and shunter shouted to the deceased but he took no notice of these warnings.
