- Details of Event
- Died June 4. Deceased was sitting on his cracket kirving in a lift nearly holed into the goaf in the broken second working of the Low Main seam when some coal fell on to his leg. He was taken home suffering considerable pain and the doctor who saw him about four hours after the accident found pretty severe contusions and abrasion below the knee and considerable swelling but no fracture. He became insensible next day and continued so until death. The doctor made a post-mortem examination and found death had resulted from meningitis or inflammation of the brain but he said at the inquest that he could not connect the cause of death with the injury unless cold following the shock of the injury had caused the brain trouble. The Jury found in death was due to meningitis, the result of the accident.
