- Details of Event
- Along with other three men, he was carrying a girder weighing 300 lbs. when he said he felt he was going to faint. He sat down and began to spit blood. He was seen by a doctor who reported that the man had ruptured a blood vessel on the lungs. He died on 3rd February. An inquest was held on 6th February, following a post mortem. The doctor said the man had consumption in both lungs. The cause of death was a ruptured blood vessel, which in the man's condition could be caused by a slight strain, such as a cough. The rupture could have occurred without strain. The Jury found that death was due to a ruptured blood vessel in the lungs caused by carrying a girder.
