- Died 19th November. About 1.25lbs. of compressed gunpowder was exploded by deceased in some unexplained way. He used a candle and was engaged at a box in which the powder canister was kept. While lying in bed on the afternoon of the day of the accident with his face covered with oiled bandages he ignited these while lighting his pipe and was burned a second time but not seriously the jury found that be died from burns accidentally received in the Seaton Burn Coal Mine on the 17th November, 1902, by an explosion of gunpowder accelerated by burns afterwards received at home.
