Brodie was placing a load in position at the top of a jig (inclination 29 degrees) ready for jigging, without having the snap-block properly fixed. The load overpowered him and ran into the jig, dragging him with it for a distance of 20 yards where it left the rails and stopped. He was found lying behind it with his head badly injured. He died on the way to like Infirmary.
