Deceased and others were repairing and retimbering a gateroad in the Thick Coal. A gap of 5ft. had been formed between the new and the old timber, and while he was at work in this space a bump occurred, and about a ton of slack and crushed coal came down upon him, dislocating his neck and burying him. He had worked in this mine for 34 years. The place was not far from the goaf and bumps occurred frequently.
