Deceased was descending the shaft in a cage in which there was, contrary to regulations, an empty tram. The cage was heard to bump in the pit about 50 yards down, and was stopped by the banksman. On the cage being brought to the surface the tram was missing and deceased was found hanging by his strap to a bolt on top of the cage, his legs being inside the cage. How he got in that position is a mystery.
