13 February 1931: Shotts Boy Killed - A distressing fatal accident occurred yesterday at Rimmon Colliery, Shotts, belonging to the Shotts Iron Company. A young lad, Andrew Britton, aged 14 1/2 years, who was engaged at the screening plant, had his clothing caught in a revolving shaft and he was whirled round to instant death. The lad only commenced work on Tuesday of this week, and resided with his stepfather, George M'Lean, at Hamilton Street, Shotts. [Scotsman 14 February 1931]
