- Details of Event
- Deceased was working by himself in a headway place, 5 yards wide, with a hard post roof. Thin waves of "bloc" put in between the coal and the post, making the top treacherous. having sumped in at the barrow-way he proceeded to work the mid (about 4 feet) off, and had got this shoot halfway up to the place when he uncovered a slip by the roof, close up to the coal race. This brought away a quantity of the blue, the thick end catching his head and instantly killing him. The stone was 3 yards long, about 2 yards wide, and about 8 inches thick. It was slippery and moist. It is probable that one, if not two, props were canted out by the stone.
