In pulling some clod from the face, it came away more readily than he expected, and, in consequence he overbalanced and fell back against the gob, bruising his back and fracturing his spine. He was taken to Tredegar Cottage Hospital on the following day, where he lingered and died on the 2nd March, 1908.
