Deceased and two other men were engaged in ripping through a low portion of one of the main roads in the Thick Coal. They had taken out one old setting and put in a new one; another old setting was than taken out, and while preparing for the second new one a bump took place, reeling all the old timber out, and the whole place caved in. Deceased was almost completely buried, and when the dirt was cleared away a large piece of rock was found to be on his back, which was fractured. He died immediately he was released.
