- Details of Event
- A level was being enlarged and girders and bars were being removed and fresh and longer girders set. This work unlocked the old girders, bars and props, with the result that when the bridge of old roof supports was reduced to a length of 16 feet, the strata settled with a terrific bump. Four bars and two girders were thrown out and 150 tons of roof fell. Taylor was buried. It was dangerous work in a dangerous place, and the precaution of setting temporary roof supports should have been taken.
