This accident occurred in the bottom section of the Thick Coal. A short length of face had been holed below the slippers and spragged, and a shot had been fired in the slippers at one end after which deceased intended to get down the measures above. Instead of working along from the shot he was filling out some slack from the holing near the centre, when the coal fell and crushed him against a tree. He died the same day. The coal had been shaken by the shot more than the deceased imagined.
