- Details of Event
- Deceased was injured at a curve on an endless rope tramway between the pit and the wharf. A hovel for the use of the workmen on the wharf and tramway was situated close to and on the inside of the curve, and deceased was going to the hovel when the whole curve was pulled up, and the rope flew over with tremendous force, striking hint on the side. He died in the hospital shortly afterwards. The cause of the extensive strain on the rope was the derailment of a full tub, which became fastened in a brick archway. The hovel has since been moved to a safer position.
