When cleaning up rubbish on the side of a new haulage road he found an old powder tin containing loose powder. Probably when examining it he ignited the powder with his candle. The management allege that no loose powder has been taken underground since the exemptions were withdrawn at the end of last year and that consequently this tin must have been there ever since. In support of this is the fact that the men are supplied with powder without charge and compressed powder only has been issued from the magazine. It is not likely that any of the men would buy powder at their own expense and bring it there.
