He was engaged painting the inside of a house in which a 5-h.p. motor is situated for working the dampers of the coke ovens, the arrangement working automatically by a clock for changing the flow of air to the ovens every half-an-hour. He had the outside of the press (with glass, &c.), to paint, but not the inside. He appears, however to have opened the press door and to have been painting inside terminal, receiving a current of 400 to 500 volts. Artificial respiration was at once tried, and first aid given, but without avail.
