- Fall of roof in working place after drawing props. (Good roof.) Of 369 Union road, Oswaldtwistle, a married man met with a shocking death whilst following his employment as a collier at the Oswaldtwistle Colliery Company's Town Bent Pit. He was engaged in filling a wagon along with a man named Henry Hayes, when some props used in the workings gave forth a cracking noise. Hayes shouted to his mate "It's coming, Dick" and both set off at a run, Brindle was however too late to save himself, a portion of the roof coming in with a crash on the top of him crushing him terribly about the head. Hayes escaped with a slight injury to the back. (Accrington Advertiser, July 20th. 1900).
