- Details of Event
- He and others were working about half way down the upcast shaft removing some old rusty 3in water pipes 3 or 4 yards back into the mouthing. In taking hold of one of the pipes his thumb was slightly cut or scratched but beyond wrapping it in a rag he took no heed of it for some days when blood poisoning supervened and he died 1st May. This is another case which but for the Compensation Act would certainly not have come under the notice as a mining fatality.
