Deceased, instead of standing at the outbye side of his door to wait for the driver's set, stood at the inbye side. He thus had to open the door by pushing it, instead of by pulling. Deceased was in the act of doing so, when the pony was close to him he slipped and fell and was crushed by the tubs against the dour frame. He died the same day in Hartlepool Hospital.
