- He waited until his pony and six full tubs had left the fiat, and then after putting in the chock was running to overtake his set when he tripped up and fell and bruised his left knee. He completed his shift and walked home. His knee got worse and a doctor was called in and ultimately ordered his removal to the Royal Infirmary, Newcastle-on-Tyne, where he died on September 9th from acute osteritis of the tibia which had set up absorption of toxins resulting from his accident.
