27 January 1931: Shotts Miner Killed – While at work in Hassockridge Colliery, Shotts, belonging to the Coltness Iron Company Ltd. John Swan aged 26 years, was buried under a fall from the roof. When his body was recovered life was found to be extinct, death being due to suffocation. Deceased, who was a young man, resided at Eastfield, Harthill. [Scotsman 28 January 1931]
